Rivalry (Chapter 1)

Ryan and Sarah were enemies since they first met. She had proclaimed that he was a wimp and he said that she had an ugly face which started their war at the tender age of four. Their parents were good friends, what with them being neighbours, so they often met each other and almost always ended up in the same class. Their fights and quarrels were very well known and all the teachers and students watched their debates with amusement. They quarrelled for every small thing. Ryan grew up to be a popular guy who played basketball in the main team despite his short height. Sarah, however, was academically inclined. She topped all the subjects all the time with huge margins no one ever came close to. She was a tall beauty who all the guys would die for. She had dated several guys but usually left them because she was never satisfied. Ryan and Sarah joined the Student Council together. It was the biggest platform for them to face off on common ground. They were both very persuasive and diplomatic so they qualified although Ryan's grades were just average and Sarah was more of an introvert. It was still their first year in high school.

"Hey, Ryan, the President's called us to the office.", Sarah shouted across the hall just as Ryan was about to leave. They walked together without any discussion to the office.

"Hey! I half-expected you guys to come here quarrelling like love-birds again.", the president said as she brushed her hair behind her ear carefully like she did when she was thinking absent-mindedly.

"WE AREN'T LOVE BIRDS!", they shouted in unison.

"Yeah, sure. Anyway, I got you here to tell you that for all the third and second years in the Student Council fell ill with avian flu or the hay fever, probably both for all I care. The fourth years have some important exams to study for, you guys are the only ones left in the Student Council now, you take care of all matters for 3 days. Probably a little longer. All you have to do is sort out the paperwork, report to the teachers and not fuck under the table, the carpet might just get dirty.", she said, giving her trademark wink, which was about half the reason all the guys voted for her. The other half was that she winked her other eye at them. I know, that is so dumb!

"But we can't take care of all the duties, right? We are just first years.", Sarah said.

"Yeah! And I most definitely can't do it with her!", Ryan retorted. Sarah grumbled. And just as another debate was about to ensue, our perverted President intervenes.

"Whoever does better gets a chance to touch my boobs.", she said as she winked seductively. Ryan stood for a second in awe as she jiggled her large breasts. Sarah slapped the back of his head.
"Shut up, I don't care about your tits.", Sarah said.

"It's a little tempting, though.", Ryan murmured. The president came closer to him and put her hands on his shoulder and was about to hug him into her breast but Sarah pushed her back.

"What's wrong? Feeling jealous?", the president asked.

"I am not jealous of a pervert like you. Just stay away.", Sarah said.

"Aww… So cute! You want me to stay away from your cute Ryan…", she said as she grinned.

"Shut up!", they both shouted in unison again.

"Alright! Here's the deal, the one that does better gets two VIP tickets to the Parallel Concert coming up next week.", she said smiling more naturally. Both jumped at the announcement. Out of the few thing they shared their common interest in, the band 'Parallel' was one. Their faces immediately turned into their enemy faces as they looked fiercely at the President.

"I'll be off then, soldiers. May the odds ever be in your favour.", the President said as she marched off. They both suddenly noticed the huge pile of paperwork that was to be sorted. They sighed. But it had to be done, for the sake of Parallel.

Next day was longer. They had to do all their student council duties along with their normal school work and it was more hectic for them than it normally was. Ryan was just going down the stairs in a hurry to get to the student council office when he slipped. Before he realised it, he was falling towards the ground face front when suddenly a hand wrapped his back and he felt himself float in the air for a second before he stopped mid air in the arms of Sarah. She was carrying him in a front lift and he had instinctively wrapped his hands tightly around her neck and was hugging her hard with his eyes closed and legs had tightly wrapped her waist. He had a bad past of falls. He himself had gotten his one and only scar on the neck after he fell from a huge flight of stairs while playing and his cousin had fallen off the stairs and fractured his head and died of too much blood loss. He had trauma like conditions when something like that happened. He had fallen once after his cousin had died and he was frozen at the bottom of the stairs for almost half an hour until someone had noticed him. She stood like that for some time until he stopped crying.

"You should be careful.", she said rubbing his back consolingly. "It's fine now, you're safe. I'm… here.", she whispered into his ear. He stopped crying and she wiped his cheeks.

Narrator's creative explanation: They are really friendly enemies. All lovey-dovey, the president wasn't wrong after all. It was a little less romantic originally but I guess I just took the liberty to make the story seem less believable and more entertaining.
